Job Overview

Location:        Medical Aid Station at Fort Hunter Liggett, CA

Qualifications: The Registered Nurse (RN) will perform the same clinical duties as those required of any military or government civil service personnel of similar experience assigned to the same unit. The highly desirable candidate will possess (1) a strong working knowledge and skills to use a variety of computer systems and (2) a strong working knowledge of the military health care system and computer.


  • Graduate of a school of Registered Nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC); or
  • Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) at the time the program was completed.

Exceptions: Healthcare education in the military service or training in the military service which is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed as qualifying for full RN licensure will be accepted.

[Note: The successful candidate will be required to meet Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements in Army Regulation 351-3 (AR 351-3) or as determined by the provider’s State of licensure, whichever is more stringent].

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a RN in any of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.


  • Currently possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification is desirable, but not required.


  • Must possess a minimum of one year of nursing triage experience within the last five years.
  • Studies and experience specifically related to Women’s Health Issues is desirable, but not required.

[Note: The American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is the only program accepted].

Specific Duties/Tasks:

  • Obtain patient history during patient visit.
  • Perform quality control checks and operator maintenance for appropriate waive testing.
  • Assist in identifying patient needs and implementing the plan of care.
  • Document care given and patient’s response in the medical record as appropriate.
  • Prepare patients for physical examination.
  • Carry out prescribed Health Care Provider (HCP) orders and document in patient medical records.
  • Communicate pertinent patient data to Health Care Provider (HCP) as appropriate.
  • Recognize and initiate appropriate measure in emergency situations.
  • Assess patient knowledge level, implement plan of instructions, and record patient demonstrated level of understanding.
  • Assist with related administrative tasks, to include but not limited to using electronic medical systems to document care or health status of patients. Training on DoD medical systems will be provided as required.
